Dogs form awesome connections with children. Picture a dog joining his buddy of three years in timeout to keep him company. It’s you and me buddy, together through the good and the bad. I’ll be your playmate and when mummy or daddy reprimands you, I’ll stand with you.
Meet the Ohio dog that volunteered to join his little owner in timeout
The unexpected happened when an Ohio mother sent her son to timeout to reflect on his bad behavior. To her surprise, the family’s dog joined his little owner.
Peyton, a three-year-old boy, punched Ryleigh, his five-year-old sister, after a disagreement. Jillian Marie Smith, their mother, felt she needed to place him in timeout. She told Peyton to choose between staying in his room or taking a timeout.
Peyton chose a timeout.
The family dog joins his little owner
Then, something strange happened when Peyton went into a timeout. Good Morning America (GMA) reported that while Peyton was in timeout, the family’s dog, Dash, came over and joined him.
Sensing that his little owner needed company, Dash stood next to Peyton who then wrapped his little arm around his canine friend. Dash didn’t want his best friend to be alone.
Smith happened to witness this unexpected and moving occurrence and she snapped a photo. She told GMA that she just happened to have her phone with her as Peyton was in timeout and she took a picture.
After capturing the moment, Smith shared the picture on her Facebook page. She captioned, “When your best friend won’t let you serve your time in timeout alone.”
Smith guessed their dog, an English mastiff, sensed her son’s loneliness. She said she couldn’t stay mad longer when she saw Peyton cutely wrap his arm around Dash.
She told The Dodo she thought Dash knew Peyton needed his buddy when he had to go to timeout.
Mother discovers that many dogs also volunteer to join the little owners in timeout
Smith soon realized that Dash was not the only dog that joined his best friend in timeout. A lot of pet owners responded to her photo noting that their dogs also do the same thing. The picture has been shared over 51,000 times.
One pet owner commented they have a little Beagle that wouldn’t let their single 8-year-old twin serve timeout alone. Another shared that their Pit Bull does the same thing when he sees their kids standing in the corner but the dog also faces the wall with them. They continued to say it’s the most adorable thing ever and that dogs are so sweet.
Dash’s relationship with his little owner
The bond between Dash and his little owner Peyton has grown over time. Talking to The Epoch Times’ Chinese version, Smith said that Dash has been at her son’s side since he was three months old. The hairy friend has been a great source of pleasure for the family, especially for Peyton.
“Peyton must bid Dash goodbye every time he needs to go somewhere,” Smith said. He tells him not to worry or be depressed as he’ll be back soon. And when he returns, Peyton quickly notifies Dash. He calls Dash “Bro” and tells him he misses him.
Smith, from Norfolk, told TODAY parents that Peyton loves playing dress-up with Dash, calling him “their 230-pound gentle giant.” They dress up in superhero costumes and act out fight scenes. “While Dash may not understand what’s happening, he does let Peyton do what he wants.”
Smith also noted that Dash and Peyton spend all their time together. Anytime she can’t find her son, she searches for their dog to locate him.
