Toys are an integral part of a dog’s life. They bring out the dog’s playful and agile nature. In most cases, the dogs may end up attached to a specific toy or a variety of toys to express their undying love for them.
In this beautiful story, we will share more about a dog who became very attached to her toys in the shelter and refused to leave them behind when she was adopted. It’s an incredible story that portrays a dog’s unconditional love for her toys. It is important to note that her ideal toys were stuffies.
Waffle Sizzli is a black pit bull who developed an affection for toys. While in the shelter, nothing mattered to her, like her toys. According to Christie Peters, the director at Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC), she held them dear to her heart and carried them everywhere she went within the shelter.
Waffle rescue
Waffle was a stray dog until November 2022, when she was rescued. Typically, rescued dogs get new owners, but somehow, Waffle didn’t get one for some time. When January 2023 clocked, she became the longest RACC shelter resident.
While in the shelter, she coexisted harmoniously with the staff members. She got lots of love and cuddles, which made her feel at ease during the long wait. However, her collection of stuffed animals made her more comfortable.
Waffle’s introduction to Stuffies and her undying love for them.
After being rescued and brought into the shelter, she developed a special love for the toys always within the premises. Peters gave her the first plush toy, but after some time, she may have gotten two more toys from the neighboring office. Among her toys were a red plush bone, a bird, and a frog.
After introducing her other newly acquired toys to Christie Peters, she took them to her bed. She wouldn’t sleep without the toys by her side. Interestingly, when she wasn’t sleeping, she had at least one toy by her side in the shelter.
Waffle had developed an unbreakable bond with these toys to the point that she would carry them to the bathroom and return them to her bedside afterward. Even though she had an undying love for plush toys, the plush red bone was her favorite, followed by the frog. However, the frog’s legs would occasionally make her trip.
The bird was the least of her favorites; however, do not get her wrong, she also carried it around. Waffle’s love for the toys was immense because she paid no attention to other dogs in the shelter. Christie indicated that Waffle would instead tease the dogs in their cages by proudly showing off her toys to them.
She only cared for the toys and wanted them all for herself. She would immediately turn down a tug-of-war or fight with the toys initiated by the staff members. She developed a habit of showing the toys to the staff members every day but would not let anyone touch them.
She wanted the toys to be admired by others, too, but not touched because they were hers alone. Sometimes, when you love something, you will go out of your way to tell people about it but become defensive when they get too close to it. That defensive mechanism is precisely what Waffle was doing.
Waffle’s Adoption
Three months later, in April, someone showed interest in Waffle. A lady who had lost her senior dog and was looking for a replacement decided to apply for Waffle’s adoption. The videos of Waffles playing with her toys deeply touched her.
After a few days, the application was accepted, and Waffle was given to the new owner. They ensured she was accompanied by every toy she loved while departing the center. Christie admits that even though the entire staff is sad that Waffle is not around, they are optimistic that she is enjoying her new life with her toys.
In conclusion
Waffle’s love for toys indicates the unconditional love that dogs naturally give you and become overprotective about sharing you with anyone. Additionally, Waffle’s company was a sweet one that every staff member at RACC wished for every day because she reminded them of her loyalty to her toys. The love and care shown to Waffle by the shelter and the introduction of toys are humane acts that every rescued dog dreams of.
