State Trooper and Motorist Spot Dog With Broken Pelvis in I-75 Ditch, Give Her Water, Shade, a New Home

Driving down a Tennessee highway, Kaye Fiorello spotted a state trooper pulling over speeding cars. She checked her own speedometer to make sure she wasn’t over the limit. But a short while later, she noticed something else that made her turn around and go back.

There Near the Exit 20 Sign Was This Poor Dog…

Fiorello had seen a dog collapsed in a ditch by the highway. “This dog was panting like she was fixing to die,” she described. The sweltering 95 degree summer heat was clearly too much for the animal.

Fiorello felt torn. She was just trying to get to work, but couldn’t leave this distressed dog behind. So she turned around to find that trooper she’d passed earlier. As she recalled, “The trooper was still there! Yay!”

She pulled up and explained to Trooper Tudors about the dog stranded near exit 20. He quickly agreed to help and they raced over to the scene. The exhausted dog was still there, barely moving in the grass.

The Trooper Offered Her Water and Comfort

This poor dog was initially terrified of the trooper in his uniform. But Tudors just sat patiently, coaxing her to drink from his makeshift bowl of Kool Aid. As Fiorello described, “She sniffed the water, then realized this kindness was for her! She drank that water in minutes!”

With the dog finally trusting him, Tudors set up an umbrella for shade and kept feeding her treats. He made it clear he wouldn’t force the injured animal into his vehicle until she was ready. When Fiorello left them, she knew the trooper truly cared about the stray dog’s wellbeing.

Vet Exam Showed She Had a Broken Pelvis

In follow- up later, Fiorello learned the dog was brought to a veterinary clinic. Exams showed she had suffered a broken pelvis at some point. They gave her the name “Princess” and set up a fund to help cover vet expenses for this homeless dog.

As Fiorello posted online: “I believe his being there at the right time, was one of those little messages reminding us of the good in our world.” She praised Trooper Tudors as “one of the good guys for sure.”

The Trooper Ultimately Adopted Princess

After recovery treatment, Princess had several potential adopters offering to give her a home. But in the end, it was Tudors who couldn’t let her go. Fiorello shared the good news, writing “Guess who got adopted! And guess who adopted her!!”

Although Princess still faced more medical care, the trooper welcomed her into his own family. Thanks to his compassion and Fiorello’s decision to get him involved, this injured dog now had a chance at a real home.

The story serves as a reminder of how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. For one exhausted dog stranded on a highway, it certainly changed the course of her life.
