A local journalist by the name of Eric Guzman was one of the first people to notice the pup. Like the storied characters that the Nativity scene portrayed, the pup did not pick that spot to relax. Guzman inspected the scene closely only to realize that she had a litter of puppies that she had given birth to recently.

The dog seemed to have chosen the manger to give birth to her puppies since there was no better and safer option available. Guzman informed The Dodo that he was astonished and happy after he saw that she gave birth to her puppies in a shelter where they would not get cold or wet. He also added that Palenque is normally hot all year, but it had been recently cold.
