Bentley’s mom, Kelly Madsen, informed The Dodo that their baby was wrapped in a blanket, which was later passed on to her parents to let Bentley sniff it and become familiar with the scent. When the baby was taken home, Bentley sniffed the newborn as he wagged his tail. It was as if Bentley understood that the baby was part of the family because of how gentle he was with him.

Since Bentley is now a big brother, he takes responsibility for seriously protecting his small brother and being by his side as often as possible. Kelly said that he alerts them by whining any time he hears the baby cry. Whenever the baby was placed in the bassinet, Bentley would become distressed since he would be unable to see him.
